In 2020, Lubbock Independent School District (ISD) started the school year virtually like many other districts during the COVID-19 pandemic. By the end of the 2020–2021 school year, around 10% of students were still learning virtually.
School leaders knew they would be facing many learning gaps in the next school year. They also knew that without foundational literacy skills, their students would not be successful as they moved through their learning journey.
Leaders at Lubbock ISD set out to find a solution that would provide educators with actionable data and helpful tools to determine which students needed extra support to fill learning gaps. They turned to Istation for help.
With Istation, Lubbock ISD leaders had the exact data they needed for teachers to intervene appropriately in a timely manner.
The data provided teachers insight into their students’ strengths and weaknesses so they could plan instruction and practice to support student growth.
Lubbock ISD students practiced skills using Istation’s game-like learning tool. They could see results and celebrate literacy success immediately.
Even in the midst of a pandemic, Istation gave educators consistent assessment data, and students were able to maintain skill growth and even increase their proficiency scores.
Lubbock improved from being a C district to a B district. Academic growth at the elementary level made the greatest impact on this movement. While many districts saw reading loss, Lubbock ISD was able to succeed using Istation.
